Finding a new beauty professional to put your trust in can be daunting. We've all seen horror stories from eyelash extensions gone wrong, and when you need to find a new lash artist out of potentially hundreds in your city, it's important to know what to look for. So here I've put together my top 3 tips for selecting a lash artist!
1. Photos.
Every lash artist will have their own website and social media pages full of lots of images of their work. Take a look at them! The images should be clear enough for you to zoom in and take a look at the lashes. There shouldn't be any black, shiny 'chunks' at the base of the eyelash extensions, the lashes should look neat and there should be a variety of photo's showing different angles - if you can only see the top or side of the lash set, it's going to be pretty difficult to spot inferior work. There should also be plenty of examples of different eyelash extension types and styles. A talented lash artist will use a variety of different lengths, thicknesses and curls in both classic and volume work to create a bespoke look for each and every client. They will play around with colours (brown lashes look amazing on green eyes!) and you will notice they won't have too many set's that look the same. You won't spot any ridiculously long or thick lash sets, as a good lash artist only uses safe lengths. The client's natural lash health is her number one priority.
2. Pricing.
Whilst the most expensive doesn't always mean the best, it's important to keep in mind that there is definitely an average price range for lash services, and these prices haven't actually changed a lot since eyelash extensions came out over a decade ago! When looking around for a lash artist, you can use these prices as a bit of a guide; For classic lashes, you can expect to pay between $110 and $170. Hybrid lashes between $140 and $220, and for [handmade] Volume lashes anywhere between $150 and $300 depending on the desired look. It's a pretty safe bet that a lash artist with prices in this range is not only highly qualified, she also holds all the necessary insurances, has everything registered and does everything by the book. She spends thousands yearly on ongoing education to make sure she's always putting out the best lash work and she stays up to date on all the changes in the lash industry. She doesn't scrimp on any products or cut any corners. She ensures the whole lashing experience as comfortable as it can be for the client, whether its in a commercial salon set up, or a professionally set up home business.
3. Reviews.
It shouldn't be too hard to find reviews of any lash artist. Head to their Facebook page where you will find star rating's and reviews, and while you're there you can check your local community page where you can ask for recommendations from happy clients. If they have a website you should be able to find some testimonials on there from clients, and don't forget to check google for any reviews as well!
So there you go. My top 3 tips to help you when searching for a lash artist.
Of course, there are many other things that can attribute to a great lash artist, so this is just a guide to help you narrow it down when you're feeling overwhelmed with choice. There are many amazingly talented and ultra passionate lash artists out there, and the best thing you can do to help you choose, is meet them in person! Book in a complimentary consultation with the lash artist and discuss any concerns you have. This is also a great opportunity to let the lash artist make her recommendation on styling options to best suit you, as well as discuss the aftercare requirements so that you're able to go ahead and book your appointment with confidence.
